Outdoor Tiling Brisbane

Outdoor Tiling for poolside areas, walkways, patios and balonies

Our Brisbane outdoor Tiling

Pool and outdoor Tiling With Seamless Transitions

We tile patios, pool surrounds, alfresco zones and entertaining areas right across Brisbane.
Whether you are finishing a new build, updating a tired courtyard, or laying a fresh surround around the pool, we handle the lot: checking the surface, sorting the falls and drainage, laying the tiles neat and square, then sealing where it is needed.

Choosing tiles that suit the outdoors

Outdoor tiling is not just indoor tiling moved outside. The two big things that matter out here are grip underfoot and how the tile copes with weather.

Grip comes down to slip resistance. Tiles carry slip ratings that tell you how much traction they offer when wet, and outdoor and poolside areas need tiles rated for those wet, barefoot conditions rather than a smooth indoor floor that turns slick the moment it rains. The principle is simple: the wetter and more exposed the area, the more slip resistance you want.

Around a pool or on a set of external steps that matters even more. We are happy to point you towards tiles with a suitable rating for where they are going, and if compliance for a specific area is a concern, ask us and we will help you confirm what is appropriate.

The material matters too, and each option has its place:

  • Porcelain: hard-wearing, low-maintenance and stable in the weather, which makes it a strong all-rounder for patios, alfresco floors and pool surrounds. Outdoor-grade porcelain comes in textured finishes built for grip.
  • Natural stone: think travertine, granite, bluestone and sandstone, with a natural look and cool underfoot feel that suits pool areas and gardens. Stone is porous, so it needs sealing and a bit more care over its life.
  • Pavers: thicker outdoor units that can be laid on a bed or on adjustable pedestals for paths, courtyards and driveways where you want a solid, chunky finish.

We will match the tile to how the space gets used, how much sun and rain it cops, and the look you are after, then lay it so the joints and cuts are tidy.

Drainage, falls and waterproofing

A good-looking outdoor floor still fails if the water has nowhere to go. Every outdoor area needs a slight, deliberate slope, called a fall, so rain runs away from the house and towards drains, garden beds or the yard rather than pooling on the surface or tracking back against the building. We set these falls as part of the prep, not as an afterthought.

Elevated areas and balconies add another layer. Where you are tiling over a space that people live in below, or over any area that needs to stay dry underneath, waterproofing goes down first and the tiles sit on top of it. Getting that membrane right is what protects the structure over the years, so it is worth doing properly. If your project involves tiling above a habitable room, mention it early and we will factor the waterproofing into the plan and talk you through what is involved.

Sealing is the last piece, and it matters most with natural stone. Because stone is porous it can stain and mark if it is left bare, so we seal it to help it shrug off water, dirt and the odd spilled drink, and it will want resealing every so often down the track. Porcelain generally does not need sealing through the body of the tile, though the grout lines can still benefit from it. We will tell you what your particular tiles need rather than sealing for the sake of it.indoor-outdoor flow or refreshing a tired surface, we’ll help you select the right texture, tone and finish for your space.

Pool surrounds and Wet Zones

A pool surround has to feel good underfoot, stay cooler in the sun and grip when it is wet and covered in splashes. We lay surrounds with slip-aware tiles, careful falls that carry water away from the pool edge, and clean detailing around coping and steps so the whole area ties together and is safe to walk on with bare feet.

Alfresco and entertaining areas

Alfresco spaces are where the outdoor room meets the house, so the flooring often flows from inside out. We can match or complement your indoor tiles for that seamless look, keep the levels right across the threshold, and choose a finish that handles chairs scraping, foot traffic and the occasional barbecue mishap.

Patios and courtyards

Patios and courtyards take plenty of use and plenty of weather. A hard-wearing tile laid over a sound, well-drained base gives you a low-fuss surface that is easy to hose down and keeps looking good season after season. We prep the substrate properly so the tiles have something solid to bond to.

Driveways and paths

For driveways, paths and walkways we use tougher outdoor units built to take the load and the traffic, laid with grip and drainage in mind so they stay safe and stable underfoot and under wheel.

Work that ties in with the rest of your home

Outdoor tiling often runs alongside work inside. If you are tiling indoors as well, take a look at our Floor Tiling service so the finishes flow together from inside to out. And if the outdoor project is part of a bigger update, our Bathroom Renovations team can help you pull the whole thing together.
